Spring in South Bend
As spring begins to warm up the greater South Bend area, you can feel the earth coming to life. Bird songs call us outdoors to walk under budding trees. Hop on your bike and tour our scenic riverbanks. Grab your ball cap and head down to The Cove for the season-opener. Or have brunch with a bunny.
Celebrate the arrival of spring in Downtown South Bend at an Egg Stravaganza for all ages. Start with a family buffet breakfast and greet Peter Rabbit. Then hop right into the excitement of balloon bunnies, egg painting, sack races, egg hunts, wagon rides and more!
The crack of the bat. The roar of the crowd. Those are the sounds of spring at The Cove. Grab a hot dog and a bag of peanuts and join the South Bend Silver Hawks for their Midwest Baseball League home opener. If you're lucky, you might also be able to catch a Silver vs. Gold exhibition game, with the Silver Hawks hosting the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Coveleski Stadium.
Speaking of Gold, spring in South Bend also features the annual Blue-Gold game. It's a sneak peek that gives Notre Dame football fans a chance to see the new lineup in action. The game also helps to raise scholarship money for the University.
Perhaps the best way to enjoy the spring weather is to get out on your bike. Bike the Bend is a family-friendly bike ride in the cities of South Bend and Mishawaka that restricts motorized traffic for the day and give the bikes priority. Travel along the St. Joseph River, tour County Parks, traverse campuses and wave to the animals at the zoo. Then gather with other riders for a Post Ride Festival.
