It's officially summer and that means outdoor adventures are around every corner. Even better, you can take them on with your dog. Follow this itinerary by @stumblinguponserendipity for a full day with your four-legged friend.
Grab Breakfast and a Morning Coffee
To get ready for the busy day, you’ll want to head on over to Chicory Café in downtown South Bend to grab your breakfast and an iced coffee to get you ready for the day. The options here are endless, and you really can’t go wrong.
Whether you want a savory plate of biscuits and gravy or a bagel for your breakfast in South Bend, your stomach will be growling for more when tomorrow morning rolls around!
Spend Your Morning Outside
Once you fill up your stomach with delicious grub and get the fuel from the coffee that you need, it’s time to head outside to soak up the sun.
Head to St. Patrick’s County Park to be near the St. Joseph River, wander the trails or rent a canoe to spend time on the water. If you go here, don’t forget to check out the Red Barn — one of the largest red wooden barns in the country.
If you want some longer hiking trails, you can drive to Rum Village Park to experience these uniquely wooded trails. Spending the morning at Howard Park is also an option. You can soak up the sun, grab a bite at Howard Park Public House or splash through the sprinklers.
Eat at One of Our Popular Restaurants in South Bend
After a hike at one of our most popular parks in the South Bend area, you’ll definitely have an appetite. You can check out South Bend Brew Werks, The Lauber or Howard Public House for lunch.
Each place has outdoor seating so you can enjoy the fresh air or bring your dog . South Bend Brew Werks and Howard Park Public House both offer pet menus - so you don’t want to miss that if you bring your dog with you! They’ll be barkin’ for brisket, that’s for sure.
Spend the Summer Afternoon Touring Around The Bend
After you enjoy a craft beer and a delicious meal, it’s time to get active once again.
You can spend your afternoon doing so many different activities, but our favorite summer afternoons are spent outside. You can go mural hunting to find one of the many colorful murals downtown. Or you can choose to walk around the beautiful University of Notre Dame campus. If you have time, we recommend doing a little of both!
Enjoy a South Bend Cubs Game at Four Winds Field
Who doesn’t want to spend a summer night watching a baseball game? Even better - what if you could bring your pup to the stadium?
Make sure to attend a South Bend Cubs game at Four Wind Field on Tail Waggin’ Tuesdays! Even if you don’t have a pup to bring, this is a great way to spend time with friends, eat some ice cream, watch some baseball and pet some dogs.
Now that is quite the summer night following your perfect summer day itinerary in South Bend!
