Stanley Kubrick adapted William Makepeace Thackeray's novel "The Luck of Barry Lyndon" from 1844 for his tenth feature film. Coming off of "Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey", and "A Clockwork Orange", Kubrick had an astronomical reputation to uphold. While many found the film challenging at the time, "Barry Lyndon" has continued to grow in critics' and audiences' estimations alike—and that's even with "Barry Lyndon" winning four Oscars upon its release. Restored in stunning 4K, nothing else has been touched from the original that follows a winsome Irishman (Ryan O'Neal) as he ascends dizzying heights of high society and holds on for dear life as that footing begins to shake.
