Overview
Tucked among the trees on the University of Notre Dame campus, the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes offers a peaceful and unforgettable stop for visitors. Inspired by the original shrine in Lourdes, France, this beloved site was built in 1896 using massive local boulders, some weighing more than two tons, and even includes a stone from the original grotto itself. By day, it’s a quiet place to pause and reflect; by night, it glows with the light of hundreds of candles, creating a truly magical atmosphere. The Grotto is one of Notre Dame’s most meaningful and memorable experiences.
