Four Winds Field 808 W Washington St South Bend, IN 46601 (574) 235-9664

Overview

The History Museum joins the South Bend Cubs on Sunday, April 19, at Four Winds Field to honor the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). The League was active from 1943-1954 and includes the South Bend Blue Sox, one of the first four teams of the AAGPBL. Game time is 2:05 p.m. and gates open at 12:30 p.m. Admission is charged.

The History Museum, located in downtown South Bend, is the national repository for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Their collection retains over 3,500 items, including uniforms, baseball equipment, photographs, and other memorabilia from players and teams. A permanent exhibit about the AAGPBL and the South Bend Blue Sox is on view at the museum, and additional information can be found on their website, historymuseumSB.org

At the game’s opening ceremony, representatives of The History Museum will celebrate the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League by taking the field to form the same “V for Victory” that the South Bend Blue Sox and other teams in the League did prior to their games.

As part of the gameday, The History Museum is hosting an information booth where fans can view some of the artifacts and images from its AAGPBL collection. Items from the South Bend Blue Sox as well as other teams can be seen, and museum staff are pleased to answer questions. Giveaways from the museum will be offered to fans who visit the booth.

Also, a video highlighting the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League is being premiered at the game. Produced by the South Bend Cubs with help from The History Museum, the brief video explores the history of the AAGPBL and showcases some of their items on view at the museum.
