crhc:film | Borderland: The Line Within
Overview
Join as the Indiana University South Bend Civil Rights Heritage Center brings back our celebrated crhc:film series, pairing important documentary films with local voices of those impacted by important topics.
We start with a look into the large-scale human rights crisis at the heart of the United States immigration system.
Borderland: The Line Within explores the massive surveillance, military, and carceral apparatus built to capture and deport millions of people. In the shadow of family separations and the lack of due process, Borderland follows a group of immigrants as they mobilize their communities to organize, educate themselves, and assert their constitutional rights. Working alongside a team of digital humanists at Columbia University, they map the inner workings of the border-industrial complex to answer critical questions about how the fear of immigrants is leveraged as a gateway to autocratic governance.
Following the film, we invite you to join a conversation about the immigrant rights movement and the ongoing fight for human dignity.
