Overview

Browning Cinema Learning Beyond the Classics: Mexican Cinema: Épocas de Oro Directed by René Cardona With Maura Monti, Roberto Cañedo, Héctor Godoy Not Rated, 80 minutes, DCP In Spanish with English subtitles One of the most fascinating and campiest films from Mexican cinema riffs off the Adam West version of Batman and takes the already campy crimefighter from Gotham to places that he could never go—including Acapulco. Gloria (Maura Monti) is in the dizzy heights of high society as well as the even more dizzying heights of the top rope as she moonlights as a professional wrestler. Those personas fuse into her persona of The Batwoman, who has Adam West's uniform just in a mod bikini cut. In her latest case, she's taking on a mad scientist who is hellbent on creating a subaquatic army of soldiers. Co-presented by the David A. Heskin and Marilou Brill Endowment for Excellence and the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures.
