Our War (2025)
Overview
Directed by Bernard-Henri Lévy, Marc Roussel
Not Rated, 79 minutes, DCP
In English and French and Ukrainian with English subtitles
Between February and April 2025, Bernard-Henri Lévy and co-director Marc Roussel traveled across the fronts of Pokrovsk and Sumy, in eastern Ukraine. They filmed the daily lives of civilians bombarded by Russian forces seeking to terrorize them on the eve of potential negotiations. They also filmed frontline fighters heroically resisting the Russian military and its mercenaries. Our War is structured as a logbook chronicling this experience. But the directors have been filming this war since spring 2022 (and even before, at least since the invasion of Crimea in 2014). They draw from personal archives and remind viewers of the major milestones of the first large-scale conflict on European soil since 1945. With unprecedented access, Lévy's exclusive and rare footage shows why Ukraine must win and why victory for Ukraine is possible, despite the pessimism of global arm-chair experts.
