Overview

Larry Dwyer, Assistant Director of Bands, University of Notre Dame, will chronicle why many consider Notre Dame Victory March the greatest of all college fight songs at The History Museum’s Insights in History, taking place at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6. He will also explore the history of Knute Rockne and the University's alma mater Notre Dame, Our Mother. A tour of the museum’s exhibit Rockne: Life & Legacy will be offered. Admission is $3 or $1 for members. Reservations are required by May 4 and can be made by calling (574) 235-9664, ext. 6256. Insights in History is sponsored by THK Law, LLP.

Larry Dwyer is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he was Outstanding Bandsman (1966) and twice named “Best Trombonist” at the Collegiate Jazz Festival. He earned his master’s degree in music education and did doctoral studies at the University of Illinois. His orchestral arrangements of the music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and others have been performed and recorded by the South Bend Symphony, Houston Pops, Utah Symphony, and Rochester Philharmonic.

The exhibit Rockne: Life & Legacy explores the extraordinary life of Knute Rockne, an icon of college football and the coach who catapulted Notre Dame into the national spotlight. Featuring the most extensive collection of Rockne artifacts ever assembled for public view, Rockne: Life & Legacy tells the comprehensive story of the Notre Dame coach’s life.

Now in its 21st year, Insights in History is a monthly lecture series that features a lecture in conjunction with an exhibit or area of The History Museum.
