United 93 (2006)

Directed by Paul Greengrass With Christian Clemenson, Klahid Abdalla, J. J. Johnson Rated R, 111 minutes, DCP In English and Arabic with English subtitles Released five years after the events on September 11, 2001, United 93 was a film largely supported by the families of the people depicted in the film and, further, received largely positive critical responses, including a Best Director Oscar nomination for Paul Greengrass. Now twenty years after its release and on the 25th anniversary of the tragedies, revisiting this film that utilizes a real-time framing device to bring audiences into the world of a doomed flight is a good exercise both for remembering the people indelibly impacted by 9-11 and also understanding how films and television continue to shape a world's memories and opinions of that day.
