Some weekends are made for good food, great company and a little adventure mixed with downtime. This itinerary is for anyone who likes to keep plans flexible, try something new and see where the day goes.

We recently sent content creator Nate Spangle to explore South Bend and Mishawaka, and he followed this very itinerary. His trip was packed with local eats and laid-back fun. If you want a closer look at his experience, check out his Instagram

Day One: Local Eats and Nightlife

Kick off your time in South Bend with a stop at The View Tavern, a local favorite where the burgers are hearty and the atmosphere feels like home. Then wander over to Corby’s Irish Pub, where you’ll find good drinks, great company, and a welcoming crowd of locals and visitors. Movie fans might even recognize the spot from Rudy.

When the evening quiets down, head to Seitz Park to see the River Lights reflect off the St. Joseph River. It’s one of South Bend’s most photographed spots and a great way to close out the night.

Day Two: Exploring South Bend Landmarks

Start the day at PEGGS, a downtown favorite with classic brunch plates and a great patio. When you are ready to explore, step into the the Studebaker National Museum and The History Museum, where the Rockne: Life & Legacy exhibit honors Notre Dame’s most iconic coach.

Enjoy a casual lunch at Taqueria Chicago, a hidden gem on the West Side. Next, challenge yourself on the greens at Warren Golf Course, one of Indiana’s best public courses.

When the day winds down, grab a table at Crooked Ewe Brewery & Ale House for American gastropub fare and riverfront views that never disappoint. If the night still feels young, explore Eddy Street Commons and maybe have one last drink before calling it a day.

Day Three: Coffee and Scenic Views

Ease into your last morning with coffee and pastries at Embassy Coffee in downtown Mishawaka. It's a cozy spot great for reading, working, or catching up with friends.

Before heading home, take a walk along the Mishawaka Riverwalk. The trail winds beside the St. Joseph River through shady trees and open stretches of sky. The peaceful vibes and small town charm will end your weekend on the right note.

In South Bend, you don’t have to plan every minute to have a memorable trip. Try a new flavor, chase the sunset, or let a simple walk turn into something more. Gather your crew, bend your rules a little and see how easy it is to make your own kind of fun in The Bend.
