Hearty dishes aren’t the only meals being served up in our corner of the Midwest.

Chicago has long been considered one of the best sushi cities in the country. That influence trickles into The Bend, where you’ll find fresh takes on the traditional Japanese dish at restaurants across the area.

Here’s a quick look at the best places to pick up the chop sticks and add the wasabi.

Hana Yori | Mishawaka

Known more for hibachi, don’t sleep on the sushi. When in Rome, ordering the Irish roll (shrimp tempura, cucumber, avocado, spicy crab, etc.) makes a lot of sense.

Woochi | South Bend

The extensive specialty section of the menu includes everything from the Rainbow Roll (salmon, tuna, white tuna, avocado) to the Godzilla roll (shrimp, eel, red snapper, etc.).

Koto | Mishawaka

You can go crazy big here with the Love Boat for 4. It includes 20 pieces of sushi, 28 pieces of sashimi and more. Bring your friends.

Soho | Granger

This is a great place to go spicy with the Yellowtail Jalapeño — yellowtail sashimi with slice jalapeños, ponzu sauce and sriracha sauce.

Sushi Garden | Mishawaka

Here you’ll find all-you-can-eat sushi for a flat rate at lunch and dinner. Seriously.

Zing | Mishawaka

One of the best dining options in downtown Mishawaka. Its no-frills sushi menu has a couple options that include caviar: tuna and salmon tartars.

Sushi to Go

If you're on the move for whatever reason — trust us, we get it — don't overlook sushi options at local Martin's Super Markets locations. You can get single serve, ready-to-go sushi plates or customize your own on the spot at staffed sushi stations.
